The current location has a number of advantages:
1) Faculty and their families are established there already
2) Land and costs of living are lower
3) There are many different social, cultural and educational stimulus in the area
4) A major city, Detroit is (an hour)? away. Numerous other large cities - are within 2-3 hour drives.
In contrast -
1) FL requires everyone to uproot and move. Universities generally aren't founded and relocated (ever?)
2) Naples is ridiculously expensive whether buying a home or groceries.
3) Nothing of interest in the area, just the beach, golf and everglades. No museums, no cute towns like an arbor with tons of used bookstores, nonstop guest speakers, etc.
4) Miami is the only city and 2 hours (more in rush hour) is a long commute. No other major cities to speak of in driving distance.

In addition, AMSOL has been working for YEARS to establish essential civic ties with the local-level and greater-area michigan law courts (the lifeline for accreditation and transition from graduating/passing bar to actually getting an internship at a DA office or the like).

Essentially, AMSOL is the last institution in michigan from the original 7 or so major ones that hasn't been gutten and completely destroyed yet... and now it's in the crosshairs.

Sadly, it isn't going to make it either.
